SALUDA FFA MEMBERS JOIN TENENBAUM FOR STATE FAIR TOUR

Saluda High School FFA members Curt Berry and Jordan Lake accompanied Mrs. Inez Tenenbaum, Chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in Washington, DC, and former State Superintendent of Education in South Carolina, on a tour of the Agricultural-related segments of the South Carolina State Fair on Friday, October 15. They were accompanied by John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization, who coordinated arrangements for a select group of twelve FFA members from throughout the state to join Mrs. Tenenbaum in visiting the fair.

The FFA members were joined by Dr. Laurie C. Lawson, state executive director, USDA Farm Service Agency, Columbia, SC, who arranged for Mrs. Tenenbaum to visit the State Fair. Members of the USDA Farm Service Agency State Committee were also in attendance.

Gary Goodman, general manager of the State Fair, and Nancy Smith, associate general manager, welcomed the group to the fair and led them of a tour of the various agri-related buildings and other sites on the grounds.

Mrs. Tenenbaum addressed the participants in the Junior Dairy Heifer Sale at the State Fair during her visit to the livestock arena. She was introduced by Dr. Tom Dobbins, Program Coordinator of Agricultural Education at Clemson University and Superintendent of the State Fair Livestock Department.

A reporter from Columbia’s WLTX-TV station accompanied the group for more than an hour and interviewed Mrs. Tenenbaum, FFA members Curt Berry of Saluda; Emanuel Bankston, a Clemson University student majoring in Agricultural Education and a member of the Collegiate FFA; and Troy Dobbins, state FFA secretary, of Townville.
