SALUDA YOUNG FARMER CHAPTER AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS

SALUDA, SC…The Saluda County Young Farmer and Agribusiness Chapter awarded four $1500 scholarships to area youth during the opening ceremonies at their nationally recognized Truck and Tractor Pull at the Young Farmer Stadium in the county recreation complex near Saluda on Friday evening, August 13, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs for the SC Young Farmer and Agribusiness Association.

Recipients of the scholarships were Creighton Price, a Saluda FFA alumnus majoring in Agricultural Mechanization at Clemson University; Sally Yon, a Ridge Spring FFA alumnae and sophomore at Clemson University majoring in Agricultural Education; Drake Yon, a member of the Ridge Spring FFA Chapter and freshman at Clemson University majoring in Agricultural Economics; and Brian Bushey, a freshman at Piedmont Technical College. The scholarships are named in honor of William A. Whitfield, a long-time Agricultural Educator and retired high school administrator, who resides in Saluda.

The scholarships were presented by Russell Miller, president of the Saluda County Young Farmer and Agribusiness Chapter. Amanda Nichols, Agricultural Education instructor at Saluda High School, serves as the professional advisor to the agricultural organization.
