LOCAL FFA MEMBERS JOIN TENENBAUM FOR STATE FAIR TOUR

Strom Thurmond Technology Center FFA members Elizabeth Holmes and Mills Dorn accompanied Mrs. Inez Tenenbaum, Chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in Washington, DC and former State Superintendent of Education in South Carolina, on a tour of the Agricultural-related segments of the South Carolina State Fair on Friday, October 15. They were joined by John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization, who coordinated arrangements for a select group of twelve FFA members from throughout the state to join Mrs. Tenenbaum in visiting the fair.

The FFA members were also joined by Dr. Laurie C. Lawson, state executive director, USDA Farm Service Agency, Columbia, SC, Mack Eubanks, an official with the agency, and members of the Farm Service Agency State Committee.

Gary Goodman, general manager of the State Fair, and Nancy Smith, associate general manager, welcomed the group to the fair and led them of a tour of the various agri-related buildings and other sites on the grounds.

Mrs. Tenenbaum addressed the participants in the Junior Dairy Heifer Sale at the State Fair during her visit to the livestock arena. She was introduced by Dr. Tom Dobbins, Program Coordinator of Agricultural Education at Clemson University and Superintendent of the State Fair Livestock Department.

A reporter with WLTX-TV accompanied the group for more than hour and interviewed Mrs. Tenenbaum and three of the FFA delegates.
