SC YOUNG FARMER-AGRIBUSINESS ASSOCIATION CONFERENCEThe SC Young Farmer-Agribusiness Association experienced a successful state conference at the attractive and spacious Westin Resort on Hilton Head Island, January 21-22.
The conference program began on Friday with a seminar for Agricultural Educators and concluded with banquet which featured Bill Nelson and his band from Mullins, SC.
Saturday’s program began early with a Breakfast and Business Session followed by informative education workshops on Agra-tourism, Farm Land Protection, Grass Fed Beef Production and Creating Decorations for the Home.
The Luncheon included recognition of region and state champions in various crop production categories, conservation, energy efficiency, farm shop and Chapter accomplishments. A very popular ice cream social followed lunch.
The Banquet featured Outstanding Service Awards, recognition of the Outstanding Young Farmer, the Outstanding Agribusiness, and Outstanding Chapter Advisor. A successful and profitable auction led by Auctioneer Sam Smith, a sales representative with Pioneer Hi-Bred International, ended the conference.
State officers elected include Ricky McDaniel, President, Sumter; Henry Herndon, President-Elect, Bamberg; Joey Link, Vice President, Pendleton; Michael Nance, McConnells; Jeff Sandifer, Vice President, Barnwell; Roger Smith, Vice President, Jefferson; Edsel Williams , Executive Treasurer, Britton’s Neck; and John McGee, Past-President, Anderson. Billy Keels, State Director of Agricultural Education in South Carolina, serves as Executive Director for the organization.
