MCDANIEL TO LEAD SC YOUNG FARMER-AGRIBUSINESS ORGANIZATION
COLUMBIA, SC…Ricky McDaniel of Sumter, SC, has been named President of the South Carolina Young Farmer-Agribusiness Association for 2005, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the organization.
Mr. McDaniel was elected at the closing session of the Young Farmer-Agribusiness State Conference held in Hilton Head, SC, January 21-23.
The manager of Riverdale Farms in Sumter County, McDaniel also owns R and M Farms. He produces a total of 700 acres of corn, 450 acres of soybeans, 450 acres of wheat, 200 acres of peanuts, 120 acres of hay, and 60 head of cows on the two farming operations. The Riverdale farm has a 150,000 bushel storage facility for grain and 20 irrigation systems.
A former President of the Sumter County Young Farmer-Agribusiness Chapter, he was named the Outstanding Chapter President in the Pee Dee Region for two years and has served as State Vice President and President-elect of the SC Young Farmer-Agribusiness Association.
Previously named the Outstanding Young Farmer in the Pee Dee Region, McDaniel has been recognized as the State Champion producer of Cotton, Irrigated Corn, Small Grain and Soybeans. He has been named State Runner-up in the Farm Service Center competition.
He is a member of the SC Cattlemen’s Association, the SC Corn and Soybean Growers Association, the Oswego Hunt Club, the Manchester Trail Riders Association and St. Mark’s Methodist Church in Sumter.
The father of two children, Bryan Lewis and Emily Jo, Mr. McDaniel is the son of Richard Lewis and Juanita McDaniel of Sumter.
