AGRICULTURALISTS TO MEET IN HILTON HEAD

The annual state conference of the SC Young Farmer-Agribusiness Association will convene at the Westin Resort in Hilton Head, SC, January 27-28, 2006, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the organization.

“A record breaking attendance of farmers, other agribusiness leaders and agricultural educators is expected for the two-day event which will highlight presentations on Avian Influenza: Separating Fact from Fiction; National Animal Identification System; Farm Management; and Making Decorative Arrangements Using Fruits and Vegetables”, said Ricky McDaniel of Sumter, president of the association.

Among the top awards to be presented at the conference will be the Outstanding Agribusiness, the Outstanding Young Farmer, the Outstanding Young Farmer-Agribusiness Chapter and the Outstanding Young Farmer-Agribusiness Chapter Advisor. Other awards will recognize the state champion producers of corn, cotton, soybeans, small grain, and peanuts. State winners in the dairy business , swine production, beef cattle production, energy efficiency, agricultural shop development and conservation will also be recognized.

State officers of the association are Ricky McDaniel, President, Sumter; Henry Herndon, President-elect, Bamberg; Joey Link, Vice President, Pendleton; Michael Nance, Vice President, McConnells; Roger Smith, Vice President, Jefferson; Jeff Sandifer, Vice President, Barnwell; Edsel Williams, Treasurer, Britton’s Neck; and John McGee, Past President, Anderson. William E. Keels, State Director of Agricultural Education with Clemson University, serves as advisor to the organization.
