SMITH IS PRESIDENT OF SC YOUNG FARMER-AGRIBUSINESS GROUP

COLUMBIA, SC…Roger Smith of Jefferson, SC, a member and past president of the Central Young Farmer and Agribusiness Chapter, has been elected president of the South Carolina Young Farmer and Agribusiness Association, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs for the agricultural education organization.

Mr. Smith, a retired Agricultural Educator, is a full time farmer producing cattle, hay and vegetable crops. In addition, he serves as a member of the Chesterfield County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, the Lynches River Electric Cooperative Round-Up Board of Directors, a member of the SC Cattlemen’s Association, vice president of the Angelus Community Club, a member of the Sandhill Volunteer Fire Department, and chairman of the Board of Deacons at Macedonia Baptist Church where he also teaches Adult Sunday School.

A graduate of Clemson University with a BS Degree in Agricultural Education, Mr. Smith is married to Janet L. Smith and they have two grown children and two grandchildren.

“The South Carolina Young Farmer and Agribusiness Association is affiliated with the National Young Farmer Education Association and has the second highest membership in the national organization of any state in the nation,” Parris said.

Tim Maye, Agricultural Education Teacher at Central High School in Pageland, serves as advisor to the Central Young Farmer and Agribusiness Chapter.
