FANNING IS OUTSTANDING FARMER IN LOWER-STATE

COLUMBIA, SC…James L. Fanning III of Neeses was recently recognized as the Outstanding Farmer in the Lower-State Region by the SC Young Farmer and Agribusiness Association, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the organization. The award is sponsored by the South Carolina Farm Credit Associations.

Mr. Fanning was also named the State Runner-up in the Swine Production category which is sponsored by the adult agricultural education association.

A third generation farmer, Mr. Fanning began his farming experience working with his father and grandfather and became a full partner in 1995. His farming operation consists of 140 acres of peanuts, 120 acres of corn, 100 acres of cotton and 100 acres of soybeans. He also has a successful swine finishing operation.

Natural resource conservation is very important to the Mr. Fanning. Some of his major farm equipment includes a new Unverferth Strip-Till Subsoiler, a set of John Deere conservation tillage planters and a new T & L Center Pivot irrigation system.

A member of the Edisto Young Farmer and Agribusiness Chapter, he serves as chapter president. He is also an FFA alumnus.

Mr. Fanning and his family are active members of the Lebanon United Methodist Church were he serves as a trustee, a Sunday School teacher and chairman of the administrative council.

Barry Hawkins, Agricultural Education instructor at Edisto High School, serves as the advisor to the local young farmer and agribusiness organization.
