2009 SCYFAA Outstanding Young Farmer

PLAYER IS OUTSTANDING YOUNG FARMER IN SC
COLUMBIA, SC…C.B. “Pete” Player of Bishopville has been named the Outstanding Young Farmer in South Carolina for 2009 by the SC Young Farmer-Agribusiness Association, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the organization.
Player, a fifth generation farmer who began working on the farm at an early age, became a full time farmer after graduation from Clemson University and is owner and operator of an extensive agricultural operation. Currently the farm consists of 410 acres of cotton, 400 acres of corn, 400 acres of soybeans, 200 acres of wheat, 100 acres of peanuts and 580 acres of timber. The farm is a total no-till operation and was one of the first farms in the county to adopt this unique conservation practice.
An outstanding agricultural leader, Player is an active member of the Lee County Young Farmer and Agribusiness chapter. He also serves as a commissioner of the Lee County Conservation District, a director of the Lee County Farm Bureau and a director of the Farmers Telephone Cooperative.
Player’s wife, Marie, assists with the farming operation as office manager. Their daughter, Kayla, became an integral part of the operation in 2005.
Don Boice, an official with ArborOne Financial in Florence, presented the award to Player at the recent annual conference of the SC Young Farmer and Agribusiness Association held in Myrtle Beach on behalf of the Farm Credit Associations in South Carolina.
Player’s Young Farmer and Agribusiness advisor is Beth W. Tolson, agricultural education instructor at the Lee County Career and Technology Center.
