COLUMBIA, SC…Ricky Kneece of Pelion was recently named state winner in cotton and peanut production and state runner-up in irrigated corn production by the South Carolina Young Farmer and Agribusiness Association, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs for the organization. He was recognized at the annual conference of agriculturalists held in Myrtle Beach.
Mr. Kneece produced 2008.46 pounds of cotton per acre using the Americot 1550 variety. He received a cash award from the Delta and Pineland Company.
His peanut yield was 6976.75 pounds per acre using the Champs variety. He was presented a cash award by Birdsong Peanuts.
In the irrigated corn category, he produced 261.15 bushels per acre using the Pioneer 33M53 variety and received a cash award from Pioneer Hybrid International and Monsanto.
“An active member of the Pelion Young Farmer and Agribusiness Chapter, Mr. Kneece is known and recognized as one of South Carolina’s outstanding farmers,” Parris said.
