PLAYER IS TOP COTTON PRODUCER IN SC

COLUMBIA, SC…Kayla Player of Bishopville, SC, a member of the Lee County Young Farmer-Agribusiness Chapter, was recognized as the state champion cotton producer at a recent agricultural conference held in Charleston, SC, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC Young Farmer and Agribusiness organization.

Kayla received an engraved plaque and a cash award from the Kelly Manufacturing Company (KMC), Tifton, Georgia, who sponsor the recognition program in concert with the SC Young Farmer-Agribusiness Association.

Kayla produced 1481 pounds of cotton per acre with the Delta Pine 0912 B2RF variety. She and her father, Pete Player, who operate Pondville Farms in the St. Charles community, grow more than 400 acres of cotton.

Beth W. Tolson, Agricultural Education instructor at Lee County Technology Center, serves as the professional advisor to the local Young Farmer-Agribusiness organization.
