ATKINSON RECEIVES PEE DEE REGION AGRIBUSINESS AWARD
COLUMBIA, SC…The SC Young Farmer and Agribusiness Association recently recognized Michael Atkinson of Bishopville, SC, as proprietor of the Outstanding Agribusiness in the Pee Dee Region, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the organization. “Mr. Atkinson was presented an engraved plaque and cash award by the Pee Dee Federal Savings Bank who sponsors the recognition program in concert with the state adult agricultural education organization,” Mr. Parris said.
Mr. Atkinson, owner of Town and Country Tire Service since 1994, has successfully diversified his business to accommodate the Lee County area agricultural community by making tire service calls to farms. He began the specialized service utilizing a truck to carry the equipment but has recently added a trailer equipped with an air compressor, tool box, generator and other equipment needed for tire service on agricultural equipment. His business motto, Quality Service, is the key to his success and keeps agricultural customers depending on him for their tire service needs.
An FFA alumnus, Mr. Atkinson operates a hay and cattle business in his spare time. He is an active member of the SC Cattlemen’s Association and the Lee County Young Farmer and Agribusiness Chapter.
Beth W. Tolson, Agricultural Education instructor at the Lee County Career and Technology Center, serves as the professional advisor to the local Young Farmer and Agribusiness group.
