COLUMBIA, SC…Ernie Major of Honea Path, SC, a member of the Belton-Honea Path Young Farmer-Agribusiness Chapter, was recognized as state winner in the Non-Irrigated Soybean Production category at a recent agricultural conference held in Charleston, SC, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC Young Farmer-Agribusiness organization.
Mr. Major received an engraved plaque and a cash award from the BASF Corporation who sponsors the recognition program in concert with the SC Young Farmer-Agribusiness Association. He produced 52.33 bushels per acre using the Delta Pine 7870 variety.
“A prominent Anderson County farmer, Mr. Major is to be commended for his ability to produce such impressive yields of soybeans without irrigation,” Mr. Parris said. “This statewide recognition is a notable laurel to come to the Belton-Honea Path agribusiness community,” he added.
Glenn Stevens, Agricultural Education instructor at Belton-Honea Path High School, serves as the professional advisor to the local Young Farmer-Agribusiness group.
