CDE Participation Rules Clarification  

1. Team members must be currently enrolled in FFA. Enrollment must be for the current school year.  

2. Middle school chapters may compete in any CDE, but their teams and individuals are not eligible for awards. The scores will not be counted.  

3. Middle school chapters may compete in state-only contests that are not nationally recognized, i.e. Tool ID, FFA Quiz Bowl, Wildlife, Soils, and Tractor Driving.  

4. Eighth graders in rotating classes that do not participate in CDEs, will not lose their eligibility in high school.  

5. The Tool ID CDE contest is open to active FFA members that enrolled in their first agriculture course and are not beyond a sophomore level in school. If they have taken an agriculture course at another school, it will count as their first agriculture class, and they will be ineligible for this competition.  

6. Members of a State winning CDE team cannot participate on another CDE team for that school year, with the exception of CDEs that are not recognized at the National level. They are eligible to compete in an individual event, but cannot compete in both at the National level. They may compete in other CDEs in following school years.  

7. Only one substitution will be allowed in a State-level CDE for which there has been regional contests.  

8. If the State FFA Degree has been earned, you may not reapply for a STAR award.  

9. A student may compete in multiple speaking events, such as Greenhand Creed, Upper Division Creed, Prepared or Extemporaneous Speaking, but can only be awarded on one contest.
